Why did you choose to read this article? Did it have anything to do with the title? The chances are that this was exactly the reason you clicked on the link that brought you to this article. Does this tell you anything about advertising? The reference to intelligent, successful people appealed to you because that is what you either consider yourself to be, or would want to be.

The point is: The title of this article caught your attention!

When you advertise your business products or services, do you tend to use the kind of words that every other advertiser uses? When prospective customers read ads, you want to catch their attention with well-worded lines that draw them to want to learn more.

So often, we can squander advertising money on bland advertisements that do nothing to attract potential clients. In printed ads, you often pay a set rate per word, so make them count!

How Can You Catch the Reader's Attention?

One sure way to learn how to write good ad copy is to consider some of the ads that have managed to capture your attention. Was there something about the phrasing that got you thinking? Was the language used, different from other ads you have seen? If there was something special about the way a certain ad was presented, analyse why it was so effective and imitate the style.

In printed or online ads, the headline is always of vital importance. These are the first words your reader will see. If you tend to use the same old tired expressions that others use, there is less likelihood of grabbing the reader's attention.

Try putting yourself in the shoes of the person you are trying to reach with your ad copy. If you were the prospective customer and not the business owner, what would get your attention?

When you saw the title of this article, "Only Intelligent, Successful People Will Read This!", it possibly appealed to your sense of pride that you are this type of person. It probably also caught your interest because the title did not tell you WHY that statement should be true.

So being inquisitive, you clicked on the article link. Using a similar approach to your business ads may well increase the effectiveness and bring more customers your way.
