When a person first understands the concept of Network Marketing or MLM, it can be as if a lightbulb has been switched on and they realise the potential of such a business. The idea that you can refer others to your business who become part of your downline and earn money for you sounds wonderful.
For many though, the reality is different. The dream of having your own massive network turns out to be just that, a dream. Why is it that some people never reach the goals they set when they join a Network Marketing company? There are no doubt many reasons for this, but here are just four possibilities:
1. Building a downline can be hard work.
The initial excitement of joining a new Network Marketing business can easily cloud the fact that building your own network is not always a simple task. So many set out with the notion that all they have to do is send emails to all their contacts and people will flood into the business.
Because you are excited and see the potential, you assume that everyone else is going to be the same. You will soon discover that building your business will involve time generating leads, following up leads, making telephone calls and supporting those who decide to join you. Building a downline is not automatic, so be prepared to work.
2. Lack of upline support.
Another possible reason why some fail is a lack of support from their direct sponsor and those further upline. While there may have been regular communication initially when you joined the business, this may diminish as those upline try to juggle their time among those in their network.
They may decide to spend more time with those they feel need less support and who are pretty self-motivating. When that upline support is lacking, some feel isolated and simply give up.
3. Failure to support YOUR downline.
When the shoe is on the other foot and YOU are the direct sponsor or part of the upline, failing to support those new affiliates could well result in losing them from the network. The basis of Network Marketing is in building a group who are supported through the chain. When some of your downline feel isolated, they may be inclined to try something else.
4. High drop out rate.
Drop out from Network Marketing businesses is a fact of life and even with the best of support, this is going to happen. Even some who see the potential and have a measure of success, soon lose the motivation to continue. Others find themselves as "loose ends" in the network and when this happens, they may see little point in continuing.
These are just four reasons why some fail in Network Marketing. Being aware of the reasons can help you to be conscious of how you can help and support those who join your business with a view to helping them succeed.
